Andrew has over a decade of experience of complex commercial and civil fraud, banking, trust and succession disputes. He has been part of teams acting in some of the most substantial claims to come before the Commercial Court in recent years as well as in the Court of Appeal, ICC, LCIA and ad hoc arbitrations.

He has experience with freezing orders, search and disclosure orders and other forms of interim relief and jurisdictional disputes. His interest in arbitration particularly focusses on the interaction between arbitrations and concurrent court proceedings and he also has an interest in sanctions and data protection.

Drawing on his academic background lecturing and researching in private international law, Andrew has developed particular expertise dealing with the legal, practical and strategic complexities which arise in cross border disputes. He regularly advises clients on issues of jurisdiction, applicable law and enforcement of foreign judgments and awards and is often called on to assist with the analysis and presentation of expert evidence of foreign law before the English courts.

His work regularly involves co-ordinating with foreign lawyers and navigating a diverse array of different legal systems. He has experience representing international clients from Africa, the Middle East, Central America, the CIS, and Europe.

  • Assisting as part of a team representing a leading Russian commodities firm in a substantial Commercial Court claim, successfully managing disclosure applications involving novel points of Russian law.

  • Assisting with sovereign immunity issues in sovereign debt dispute

  • Assisting with claims brought by a Saudi conglomerate in proceedings spanning several jurisdictions involving concurrent arbitration and fraud claims

  • Acting for a claimant in Commercial Court proceedings involving issues relating to dishonest assistance, offshore trusts and arbitration

  • Advising on novel applicable law issues arising in the context of a matrimonial property dispute regarding a Cayman Islands trust

  • Advising on the application of foreign law in English Commercial Court proceedings involving conspiracy and fraud claims
